FooDiva now tweeting…and the odd bite or two

Dubai; A few bites here and there to amuse you today. First things first, FooDiva is now live on Twitter, so please please please do follow me on @foodivaworld. I’ll be sure to entertain you with my foodie tweets, and feel free to feedback too.

Secondly, Dubai veterans, do you remember Zyara, the very popular café on the Sheikh Zayed Road?…well I was delighted to see it recently relocate to Dubai Media City, just footsteps from my abode. This time round, it’s more of an Arabic shisha café with quite a diverse menu from the usual Middle Eastern dishes, to sandwiches, snacks and some more international fare.

Decor appealed to the FooDiva in me with its pretty pink and girly feel – not quite sure why given the majority of guests on Friday evening were guys…metrosexual perhaps. Food however truly disappoints – we ordered grilled halloumi, chicken liver, mixed grill (kofta, beef and chicken kebab) with fries, plus houmous of course. Halloumi was rubbery and tasteless…meat was overcooked and tough…fries straight out of the freezer…pitta bread was not fresh and to top it all off zero presentation. Houmous was passable I guess. Certainly go there for your favourite shisha and fresh juice, but make sure you eat in advance. Zyara, Dubai Media City, Building 10 (BBC World). Tel: 04-3918031. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Last but not least, I am delighted to announce that Carluccio’s, the acclaimed Italian café chain has launched a delivery service from its Dubai Marina Mall (04-3997844) and Mirdif City Centre (04-2843728) locations. From 1-10pm daily. But sorry Business Bay residents, not from the Dubai Mall outlet.

Given local investment firm, The Landmark Group, who owns the Dubai franchise, is in the midst of closing its deal to purchase Carluccio’s, I am sure we will see a few more spring up across the region. Go on, order a selection of their deli counter specials; the trofie pasta salad with pesto, green beans, parmesan shavings and toasted pinenuts is FooDiva’s favourite.

A bientôt.
