Veuve Clicquot, Rosé, Champagne, France, NV

Producer

After the death of her husband in 1805, Madame Clicquot took over reins of the House of Clicquot. An auspicious choice that would forever change her life – and the history of Champagne. In 1818, Madame Clicquot broke away from the tradition of adding an elderberry-based preparation to create rosé champagne by inventing the first “rosé d’assemblage”, which blended some of her Bouzy red wines with her champagne. Since 1987, the Veuve Clicquot House has been part of the LVMH group of luxury brands.

Region

Champagne.

Grape

A blend of red wines sourced from selected black grapes. Pinot Noir (50-55%) dominates ensuring the intensity, Chardonnay (28-33%) lends finesse and elegance, whilst Pinot Meunier (15-20%) rounds out the blend.

Tasting notes

An intense, elegant nose. Notes of raspberry, wild strawberry and cherry dominate, followed by a touch of dried fruits and pastry. In the mouth, the attack is powerful, leaving behind a harmony of fruits. Exceptional balance with surprising intensity.

Tasting notes

A high aromatic expression with floral notes and mineral nuances. Wet stones, lime and salinity notes add more complexity to the wine. Elegant palate with refreshing and vibrant acidity. A pronounced intensity of flavours with richness makes for a medium body and a creamier phenolic texture. The ripe expression of the fruit gives the wine length and long-lasting aftertaste.

Aromas of blueberry jam, red and black plum, blackberry. Fine toasty hints with mocha, vanilla and peppercorn. On the palate, it’s fresh with silky and soft tannins, and good aftertaste with black fruit and spices.

Raventós i Blanc, De Nit, Cava, 2020, Conca del Riu de Arnoia, Catalunya, Spain

Producer

Raventós i Blanc has been producing wine on its land since 1497, and are among the original families to define what Cava is. For five centuries, 21 generations have worked the same 90 hectares of vines and forest. Today the wines are fully biodynamic, staying faithful to the family tradition of upholding the relationship between man and nature.

Region

This plot is situated on the north side of the Serral between a forest and a lake, at a height of 170-185 metres. It has a cold, damp mesoclimate, which slows ripening, whilst maintaining high acidity. The shallow soils are calcareous with a sandy, silty texture of marine origin, which imparts minerality in the wines.

Grape

40% Xarel·lo, 39% Macabeu and 15% Parellada – all are typical indigenous white grapes used to make Cava. What is unique here, is that 6% are Monastrell grapes, used to create a rosé wine with some extra personality.

Tasting notes

Fruity aromas of wild strawberry, grapefruit and apple, supported by a bouquet of toast, almond and cream, with a crisp, dry finish.
