Dubai has a new cake icon…

Wedding celebration cake

Wedding celebration cake

Dubai; Since launching FooDiva earlier this year, I am astounded and thrilled by the sheer number of home-grown artisanal producers right here on our Dubai doorstep – to the point it’s worth a blog in its own right. In the meantime, here’s one that caught my sweet tooth just recently; Iconycs Cakes. Austrian make-up artist and photographer Sibille Buchholzer-Juen woke up one day a few months ago and decided she wanted to bake. Now here’s a lady on a mission; with no previous experience baking, but a love of cooking and a professional chef hubbie to coach her along, she started teaching herself.

Chocolate trufflesYou can spot her design influence with the incredible attention-to-detail. Whether you’re after a celebration cake for a wedding, birthday or anniversary to corporate mini cakes, cup cakes, chocolate truffles, and even cookies, Sibille tailors every single cake to her client’s wishes, Carolina Herrera included, or else just let her design inspiration flow.

Now these don’t just look good, but having scoffed her carrot cakeLime Tree, seriously you had better watch out, FooDiva’s found a new outlet for her cream cheese icing fix. And her sacher torte, Austria’s national dessert if not dish;  a double layer of dense, but not overly sweet chocolate sponge cake, with a teeny layer of apricot jam in the middle (rum included if you like!) – all encased in dark chocolate icing. Sibille’s torte is incredibly light on the tongue but sadly not on the scales. The few times FooDiva’s visited Vienna, I’ve always ventured to Hotel Sacher for my torte fix – read more here on the legal battle surrounding the origins of this much-underrated cake. Having said that, it must be such a popular export for Vienna airport to sell tortes packed in thin wooden travel cases.

I Imagine how it would taste to have a piece of that creamy smooth Carrot cake with a cup of brew hot coffee to start my day?!! Amazing

How often can you judge a book by its cover? Well you can in this case! Sibille’s covers are pure cake-couture and when you taste what is inside … the second slice becomes urgent!
