The Cakery Dubai…cup cake heaven

Dubai; I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but anyone that really knows FooDiva will acknowledge her one weakness…a cup cake fetish. So when I happened upon The Cakery Dubai, an artisan bakery that custom makes cakes and desserts from home, FooDiva had to order in.

FooDiva’s all-time fave has always been the red velvet cup cake with cream cheese frosting; and The Cakery’s was freshly baked a few hours earlier. The vanilla sponge (with red food colouring, hence the name) was so soft and velvety, and the cream cheese frosting truly is the icing on the cake. Much preferred to traditional vanilla icing. Having tested all of Dubai’s red velvets from the city’s handful of cup cake stores in my pre-FooDiva days, I can firmly say The Cakery, you are the best!

I also tried the carrot cake cup cake; icing was also cream cheese which I just adore, but having polished a red velvet, I felt the carrot cake wasn’t sweet enough, which in all fairness it’s not meant to be. But my fellow tasters loved it!

Next to devour was a mini flake cake, I say mini but it was still four inches wide and soooo beautiful to gaze at – glad I had my friends round for tea. A traditional milk chocolate sponge cake topped with chocolate buttercream icing, whole fresh strawberries and a sprinkling of pomegranate, and the pièce de résistance, an army of Cadbury flakes circling the cake – wow! Needless to say the flakes were polished off in no time, leaving us to battle with the cake; the sponge was moist and milky. I’d have preferred dark chocolate, but again that’s just a FooDiva preference.

And finally, not that we could take in much more, the ‘blondies’, a twist on the traditional brownie. Basically small, chunky, white chocolate, peanut butter cookies. The aroma of peanut butter hits you immediately and as you bite in, your taste buds simply savour the ever so buttery peanut, whilst the white chocolate helps keep it in check without overpowering.

What can I say? The Cakery Dubai, FooDiva is in seventh heaven. Five out of five well done! Thank goodness for my exercise regime. If you’re planning afternoon tea, a birthday party or simply fancy dessert, you now know where to go.

Prices are incredibly good value and highly competitive; cup cakes are AED 8 each (minimum order six). Blondies are AED 5 for a bag of five. And the four inch mini flake cake AED 80. For orders and delivery call The Cakery Dubai; +971 (0)50 2862971.

A bientôt.
